Beneath the Water's Surface

Personal finance is like an iceberg. When we think of an iceberg, only 10 percent of the iceberg is above the water. Meaning, we only see a small portion of what is there. And for a lot of people when it comes to their finances and wealth planning, they think it’s all about the plans and the investments.

While these are very important, we must consider the other 90 percent of the iceberg. Because only 10 percent of the iceberg sits above the water, it doesn't matter how much wind or weather is blowing against the part of the iceberg above of the waterline. What really matters is what direction the base is drifting in.

The iceberg drifts in the direction the base is going. And so, the plans and investments are the activity we see above the waves. But as we go below the waterline and start to think about the results or the outcomes, we see that three things become important. This first is real confidence.

You need to know where you're going and how you're going to get there. A plan that gives you this can instill an unshakeable confidence. You also need to know you'll have wealth in retirement to support the lifestyle and choices you want to be able to make.

And you want freedom from the stress of money. You don’t need to worry about money, whereas most people think that you must always be worried about money.

Confidence, freedom, and wealth. Of course, you want those things for yourself. Who wouldn’t?

But as important as all of them are, having plans and investments in place that gives you confidence about where you're going, you'll have wealth in retirement and that you get free from stress, it isn't just about those things.

The Value Iceburg

With Dignity and Grace

We believe people who worked hard all their life deserve to live in their retired years with real dignity and grace. And isn't that what you really want?

Dignity and grace mean you won’t be forced to make painful sacrifices in order to prevent running out of money in retirement. If you have a wedding across the country, or a funeral, or you just want to get away, you will be able to buy plane tickets without worrying about how you’re going to pay for them.

This bottom most layer of the iceberg means never having to tell your spouse you have to sell the house, or worse move in with your kids. You deserve the dignity and grace of choice. And the freedom a full retirement account can give you, so you never have to ask for handouts or do without.

What does dignity and grace mean to you?
